Val Chmerkovskiy shuts down retirement rumors from Dancing With the Stars

Val Chmerkovskiy and wife Jenna Johnson addressed retirement rumors and confirmed that he is not retiring from Dancing with the Stars.
The retirement rumors may have been fueled by Johnson crying during Chmerkovskiy’s final dances with his partner, Xochitl Gomez.
They mentioned they would both love to return for season 33 if the show had them back, and Chmerkovskiy recently won a mirrorball for the third time.

Val Chmerkovskiy and his wife Jenna Johnson addressed rumors of his retirement from Dancing With the Stars, clarifying that he is not retiring and would love to be back if the show brings him back.

Val Chmerkovskiy of Dancing With the Stars Addresses Retirement Rumors

Val Chmerkovskiy, the 37-year-old reigning mirrorball champ of Dancing With the Stars, along with his wife Jenna Johnson, spoke to social media users to address rumors regarding his potential retirement from the popular dance competition. Johnson fielded questions about Chmerkovskiy’s potential retirement on a recent Instagram Story, with one fan specifically asking if he would return for DWTS season 33. To which Johnson responded, “Do people know something that we don’t know? Val?”

However, Chmerkovskiy succinctly replied, “I don’t know, [but] no, I’m not retiring. What is that? I would love to be back if the show brings me back. I’ll be there.”
The retirement rumors were fueled by Johnson’s emotional reaction to Chmerkovskiy’s final dances with partner Xochitl Gomez. Johnson clarified, “I think maybe people were like, ‘Oh, she’s so sad. It’s his last time dancing,’ but I think we’d both love to be back if Dancing With the Stars had us next season.”

Chmerkovskiy and Johnson were both part of the season 32 pro lineup on DWTS. The pair met different fates in the competition, with Johnson being eliminated during week 3 while Chmerkovskiy and Gomez emerged victorious in the finale.

Whether these rumors stemmed from a video of Johnson sobbing after Chmerkovskiy’s final dance, one thing is for sure – the professional dancer has no plans of retiring just yet. And as the devoted fanbase waits with bated breath for the announcement of the next season’s lineup, Chmerkovskiy has made it clear that if called upon by the show, he’ll be ready to hit the ballroom floor once again.
