Jan Grant Berenstain was born in Pennsylvania. After studying at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art, she worked during World War II as an artist for the United States Army Corps of Engineers. She and her husband created a cartoon called It’s All in the Family that was published for three decades in Good Housekeeping and McCall’s magazines.
