Famous for co-creating DC Comics’ Batman character with artist Bob Kane, he also made major contributions to the development of Green Lantern. He was not recognized for his work until after his death but was awarded posthumous membership in both the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame and the Jack Kirby Hall of Fame.

Following his graduation from The Bronx, New York’s DeWitt Clinton High School, he sold shoes before becoming a ghostwriter for Bob Kane ‘s Clip Carson and Rusty comic strips. He penned an episode of the Batman television series and also contributed to the screenplays of the movies The Track of the Moon Beast, The Green Slime, and Death Comes to Planet Aytin.
